Dear World,
Today I woke up at 7:00, took a shower, ate pancakes, watched my little bro Collin leave for the bus, ate chocolate chip pancakes, changed into my planned-far-in-advance outfit (black and white polka dot skirt, white tank top, and white leggings) had my picture taken by teary parents, and waited out on my front porch for my friends Georgia and Carolyn to come so we could walk to our first day of middle school together, all the while trying to control random freak outs, sweaty palms, many what-ifs, and vampire bats in the stomach. Sound hard? Believe me, it was much more than HARD.
Oh my God, wow. Well, then we walked to school, my shoulders already aching from having such a heavy backpack loaded with school supplies, and I talked A LOT. I chatter when I'm nervous. We finally got there and Georgia and Carolyn knew everybody. They exchanged so many hugs with the eighth graders and I just slunk away. I was getting more scared by the minute. But then some staff took the 6th graders inside and I somehow managed to find my Advisory class with Ms. O'Toole. So far so good. I even knew some people in that class and I understood everything the teacher was explaining. Sigh of relief. We gave her some school supplies and she took us to our lockers and gave us our combinations. Oh, joy. Another thing to remember and stress about. It took me a great many of tries, but I finally got my locker open on my own without any help, and dumped my backpack and lunch box inside. Well, I tried to. The lunch box went on the top shelf perfectly but my backpack was so fat and stuffed it wouldn't fit. After much pushing and yanking I finally got some binders out and it fit.
After that we got talked to by some of the 6th grade teachers, and then the 6th grade went into the auditorium and got talked to by the principal, Mr. Sindelair, and the 6th grade assistant principal Mr. Gold (as my Social Studies teacher, Ms. Fierberg, said later on in the day, we got talked to A LOT).
And before I knew it, the morning was over and it was lunch time. My chore, 62, had socializing first, and I actually managed to find some people I knew to sit with and talk to: Rachael and Cassie. For Cassie, the morning had went fine, just like for me. Poor Rachael was in tears. I don't even know what happened, she said everything went fine. But I won't go into that now.
Then they gave us 20 minutes to eat our lunch, and I hadn't even finished when it was time to go to our lockers and get our stuff and go to our next class. Now came the switching classes part. After about 5 times I got my lock open, grabbed my pencil case, afternoon binder, and afternoon accordion folder and headed off to find my Social Studies classroom. I was so excited because I had Ms. Fierberg, and she is supposed to be AMAZING. She was super nice and super fun, and I actually managed to survive 5th-6th period (SS is a double period), find my locker again, unlock it, dump my stuff inside, and find the gym. After we got talked to by Mr. Skowron, my gym teacher (who is really funny and fun and super nice, but not as great as Ms. Fierberg) I went BACK to my locker, unlocked it after many tries, got my stuff, and headed to Language Arts for my last period (a double period). My LA teacher, Ms. Robinzine, was nice and we had a fun class time. I found my way back to my locker, unlocked it after, let's say, 7 tries, put my stuff in, and went to Advisory again. It was a very short period, then I went back to my locker, got my backpack and my stuff, and made my way through all the big kids (apparentally I went out the 8th grade door instead of the 6th grade door), found Georgia and Carolyn, and made it home.
Now you may be asking, "How did she do it all? How did she do it all without being late, or getting lost, or feeling alone and confused at all? How is that even possible?" Trust me, I'm asking myself the same questions. I don't even know. All I know is that was a blast and easy peezy lemon squeezy, and I AM GONNA ROCK THIS SCHOOL!
